O God, your will is revealed in hidden places. We are told to be ready, for your Son comes at times we do not expect. We are told to clothe the naked, feed the hungry, and visit those in prison. Quiet our fears, so that we may venture confidently into the unknown and minister to strangers in our midst.

Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Leader: Jesus said that anyone who hears what he says and trusts in God has eternal life. The time is coming, indeed it is already here. All who heed GodÅ@

ONE: Today is the First Sunday of Advent.
ALL: As people long ago, we wait for the Messiah who will set us free from the power of death and despair.
ONE: Advent is a season of waiting.
ALL: We are preparing for the birth of the Christ Child by listening and watching for the movement of God 

Unison: God of forgiveness and mercy, hear our prayer as we confess our sin. With moments so critical we let time go by. With deliverance so near we linger in the darkness. With Christ as our armor, we yet fear the unknown foe. With the night having passed, we still hesitate to greet the new day. O God, lead us forth, that we may meet the moment you graciously give us. Dispel the shadows, so that your will may be clear. Clothed with light and new life in Christ, let us go forth as those awake to your will.
