Life of the Church | Thou Art Worthy | Elder Peggy Kueffer |
ONE: May the peace of Christ be with you. ALL: And also with you. |
Passing of the Peace | Great Are You Lord | Congregation |
One: The Sovereign God takes tender care of us - we can count on having what we need. All: God provides safety and nourishment for body and spirit. One: God leads us the right way, as if God's reputation depended on it (it does!). All: Even surrounded by danger and death, we need not fear, for God in all God's strength is with us to protect us and comfort us. One: We enjoy a sumptuous meal, where God greets us warmly and pours with a generous hand. All: Will not goodness and kindness always be ours, in some form or another, as we live in the presence of the Sovereign God! |
Prelude | Pass It On | Praise Band |
One: The loving and caring God knows us thoroughly and does not turn away from us whenever we disappoint ourselves and God. So let us dare to be honest with God and admit where we fall short. All: Why do we do it, O God? Why do we push aside your generous hand and think we can do better for ourselves? Why do we disregard the gold you offer us just to glory in the gravel we work so hard to pile up? We don't make sense, O God, not even to ourselves, and yet we are so stuck! Unstick us, we pray, by your grace. Teach us and lead us into an abiding trust in you, into service and caring for others because we know you have OUR back. Through Christ the Lord, amen. |
* Call to Worship (Responsive) | You'll Never Walk Alone | (from Psalm 23) |
One: Teach us your way, O Lord, that we may walk in your truth. All: You, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and goodness. We trust your promise that in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. |
* Opening Hymn | Psalm 23:1-6 | Hymn #614 |
Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. |
Prayer of Confession (Responsive) | Ecclesiastes 1:2, 12-14 | Elder Peggy Kueffer |
